Obituary for Pace

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday April 09, 2003

Leaving a legacy of love, Ruth Marie Pace, longtime resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, April 5 at Sandia Manor Care. She was 87 years old. Born March 16, 1916, in Omaha, Neb., to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Jones, Ruth moved with her family to New Mexico in 1925. She married Harold C. Pace in 1936 in Waco, Texas, where they lived until moving to Albuquerque in 1946. Through the years, Ruth was an active member of Edith Street Baptist Church, Parkview Baptist Church, and Sandia Baptist Church, serving in the WMU and as Sunday school secretary for Edith Street and Parkview for many years. Ruth was the nerve center of a large extended brood, loving, nurturing and binding the family together in a special way. She could name all her grandchildren, tell you what they were doing at any given time, and what the weather was like where they lived. She was a gracious hostess, with food and a chat available for whoever dropped by. Ruth encouraged others through her love for Christ, and her lively sense of humor has been passed down as a legacy to her family. She will be missed. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and daughter, Avanell, Ruth is survived by two sisters, Marion Wright and husband, Jim, of Truth or Consequences and Helen Virginia Hemley and husband, Julian of Oakton, Va.; three daughters, Shirley Elkins of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Katherine Frazier of Los Lunas, and Nancy Albright of Creede, Colo.; two sons, Tom Pace of Lima, Peru and Bill Pace of Albuquerque; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Sons-in-law include, Bill Lacy of Albuquerque, Charles Frazier of Los Lunas and Steve Albright of Creede. Daughters-in-law are Carolyn Pace of Lima and Cyndi Pace of Albuquerque. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Charles Hall, Mark Lacy, Ronnie Frazier, Steve Pace, Jeremiah Albright and Michael Pace. Honorary pallbearers include granddaughters, Laurie Holland, Alison Wingfield, Beverly Beals, Becky Farmer, Kathy Anderson, Kelly Capron and Katie Pace, and grandsons, Vaux Hall, Dan Hall, Keith Hall, Donnie Frazier, Andy Pace, Abe Pace and Jesse Albright. Services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, with Dr. Robert J. Butler and Rev. Thomas M. Pace officiating.
