Obituary for GILLILAND

Dorothy E. Gilliland, beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2003. She was a kind, loving individual who always touched the heart of everyone she met. She always had an uplifted spirit and never let anything get her down. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, bingo, spending time with her family, and walking her dog, 'Monica". Dorothy was born on October 31, 1914 in Butte, MT to parents who had immigrated to the United States from England. She and her family later moved to Martinez, CA, where she lived for many years. Dorothy later followed Bill (her husband), and his career with the Santa Fe Railroad, to Prescott, AZ, where they lived for several years. Later on, she and Bill again relocated to Gallup, NM, where they resided for over 27 years. While living there, Dorothy worked for Dr. Sellard, an optometrist and jeweler. Upon her husband's retirement, Dorothy and Bill moved to Albuquerque to be closer to their daughter, Geraldine and her family. Dorothy lived in Albuquerque for 25 years. She was a member of Del Norte Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Gutowski; granddaughter, Lynn Gutowski; grandson, Alan Gutowski, his wife, Beverly, and son, Nicholas; nephew, Bill Ernest; grandniece, Stacy Ernest; grandnephew, Andrew Ernest; and her dog and faithful companion, Monica. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Gilliland; parents, William and Fanny Ernest; brother, Fred Ernest; and nephew, Kenneth Ernest. Services will be held Friday, September 5, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
