Obituary for ROTH

ROTH, ALLEN STEWART MEMORIAL SERVICE Age 84, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, and a German and English teacher for 33 years at Sandia High School died, Friday, January 23, 2015. He is survived by wife of 33 years, Janet Seiler Roth; children, Louis and Ann Roth of TX, Michelle Roth and Sean Manchester of RJ, and Frank Roth and Debbie Stover of Albuquerque; step-children Julie (Ritts) and Louis Rael of, TX and Clifford Ritts of Albuquerque; grandchildren Christina and Daniel Rael; brother Mel and Sue Roth of CA; and sister Meriam Rosenberg of CA. He was preceded in death by his mother Molly Fenchel Roth, his father Meyer Roth, stepmother Bernice Gold Roth, and his brother Harry Roth. He was cremated and a private interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in the Centennial Garden at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts memorial contributions may be made to your local Public Broadcasting Service. He was born in Chicago, grew up in Phoenix, AZ and, as an adult, settled in NM. He graduated summa cum laude from NM Highlands University from which he won a Fulbright grant to study at the Univ. of Heidelberg in Germany. He was a Korean War vet. With an assistantship at Univ. of NM, he was granted an M.A. in English. After retirement, he participated in various programs at several Albuquerque Senior Centers. He taught conversational German; was active in the T.G.l.F. Poetry club, NM State Poetry Society; The Highland Players theater group, and The Vintage Players readers' theater; entertained at various retirement homes and his most favorite activity in life was teaching. He especially delighted in teaching his German conversational students and spent many hours preparing for the class as well as many hours writing poetry. Allen Roth married Janet Seiler Ritts (formerly of Ligonier, PA) on Valentine's Day 1982 and they are Valentines Forever. A memorial service will be held at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris, NE, Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m.
