Obituary for MIERA

MIERA, ORLANDO P. Age 84, was born June 16, 1930 in Santa Fe, NM and died on March 5, 2015 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Katherine "Kitty" Miera; two children, Stephen Miera and wife Rhonda and Rosemary Schrock and husband David; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Miera. His son, Orlando P. Miera II preceded him in death. Orlando was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Brandon Miera, Shannon Miera, Amanda Miera, Daniel Miera and Robert Schrock. Two sisters, Juliette Aguilar and Thelma Baca; and sister-in-law, Lucille Miera also survive Orlando. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Vito and Dolores Miera; sister, Luvena Trujillo; and brother, Vito Miera, Jr. He was proud to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States in the Far East Command during the Korean Conflict. Orlando received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of New Mexico and became the first Hispanic to pass all four parts of the CPA examination in the State of New Mexico. He worked for one of the big eight public accounting firms for 10 years and left them in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After leaving San Juan, Orlando and his family moved to San Diego where he became the Chief Financial Officer of a real estate developer for 10 years. He was recruited by one of his real estate lenders, and became a Chief Financial Officer of a financial institution in San Francisco. After he left the bank, he opened up his own Health Care Executive Recruiting firm and did searches for healthcare organizations throughout the United States. Orlando retired at the end of 1998, and turned over his business to his two sons. However, he continued to assist them until the end of 2008. He was also very active throughout his life in ministries in the Catholic Church. At Risen Savior Catholic Communities, he served as the Chairman of the Finance Council for three years and was a Lector for over 30 years. He was also a Eucharistic Minister, and served on several other ministries. Orlando's life celebration will begin with a Rosary on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 7:00 p.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, March 12, 2015, 10:00 a.m., also at Risen Savior Catholic Community with a reception to follow. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
