BUELL, DORIS VERNON Doris Vernon Buell (93) passed away on December 30, 2014, in Bothell, WA. She was born in Blue Springs, NE, on June 13, 1921. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, NE, in 1937, and attended the University of Nebraska for three years before meeting and marrying Aulton E. "Bob" Roland in 1940. Bob, a Captain in the U.S. Army, was killed in action in April, 1945, leaving Doris with 3 preschool-aged children. Bob and Doris had dreamed of living in New Mexico. In 1949, a few years after his death, Doris and the children moved to Albuquerque. In 1955, she married Seth Eugene Buell. They had three more children. In 1955 Doris obtained her B.A. degree from the University of New Mexico. The family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1964, and a few years later to Flagstaff, AZ, where they lived for over 20 years. Gene and Doris were founding members of the Congregational Church in Flagstaff. Doris, an accomplished musician, was a church organist for 55 years, both in Albuquerque and Flagstaff. In Flagstaff, she also worked for the Flagstaff Public Library, being responsible for driving the bookmobile through the rain, sleet and snow of Flagstaff's winters. Doris loved traveling and exploring Native American sites and ruins around the Southwest, and playing the piano and organ. Following her divorce from Gene in 1980, and a two-year long trip in a camper around the United States, Doris and her companion, Ruth Dalbeck, retired in Sedona, AZ. They lived in Sedona for over 25 years before moving to Cottonwood Village, a retirement facility in Cottonwood, AZ. In 2011 Doris and Ruth moved to Woodinville WA, where they were living at the time Doris passed away. Doris is survived by her long-time companion Ruth Dalbeck; son Aulton E. "Bob" Roland (Nelcine), of Quemado, NM; daughters Sue Ward of Santa Barbara, CA; Anne Cotter (Vernon) of Sedona, AZ; Adrienne Gonzalez of White Salmon, WA; Katherine Standifer (David) of Aurora, CO; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Christopher Randel Buell (Peg) of Sequim, WA. Doris will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her ashes will be taken to Blue Sprigs, Nebraska to be buried in the family plot. A family service will be held in Blue Springs at that time.
