GARCIA, JOSEPH W. age 92, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Rosemary; children, Steven J. Garcia and wife, Anita, Margaret Lynn Garcia and husband, Danny Lucero, Michael Gary Garcia and wife, Rita Ann, Michelle Garcia and husband, Earl Holmes; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Catholic Church, a member of the AFL-CIO Local 391 and a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal. The first offensive against the Japanese. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, two Bronze Stars, the Presidential unit citation with Ribbon Bar was awarded to the first Marine Division for the Capture and Defense of Guadalcanal in World War II. The secretary of the Navy characterized this offensive: "the officers and enlisted men of the First Marine Division demonstrated outstanding gallantry. The courage and determination displayed were of an inspiring order." Semper Fi Mac. Visitation will be Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m. Final visitation will be Monday, February 23, 2015 at Santuario de San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 8321 Camino San Martin SW from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. A Committal Service will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Pallbearers will be Santos Garcia, Neil Garcia, Charles Castro, Gavin Garcia, J.B.
