Obituary for GIBSON

GIBSON, WILLIAM L. "HOOT" Former Albuquerque resident Col William "Hoot" Gibson (USAF Ret) passed away Jan 24th in Denver, CO. after a long courageous fight against cancer. During a distinguished 31-year Air Force career, he accumulated 4400 flight hours with 600 combat hours in fighter jets that included the F-84, F-86, F-100, RF-101, RF-4/C and F-4 D/E. He holds the record for longest combat sortie over hostile North Vietnam, piloting his RF-4 Phantom on a mission that lasted 7 hours. After moving to Angel Fire, NM Hoot served 6 years as Mayor pro tem of the Village. He was on the Board of Directors of the David Westphall Foundation which supports the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park. He also devoted countless hours to the National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center helping our war-fighters diagnosed with PTSD and their families. Hoot is survived by his wife June; a sister; four children; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial service with full military honors will be held Sat, Jan 31st, 3:30 p.m. MST, at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Rd, Centennial, CO 80122.
