Obituary for HANSEN

HANSEN, HANS EDWARD 87, passed away January 7, 2015 at his home in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Kellogg, ID to the late Hans and Bonnie Hansen. Ed was a WWII veteran and served in South Korea. Ed graduated from Washington State College with a BSEE degree in 1952. Ed had a satisfying, interesting and challenging career at Sandia National Labs for 34 years. Career highlight assignments included: Nuclear field testing at Nevada, Eniwetok, and Bikini; testing of first Nuclear Rocket engine(Kiwi-A) with Los Alamos; safety studies of isotope space nuclear power supplies; small rocket upper atmospheric studies at Hawaii, Alaska, Kwajalein, Florida and Australia; nuclear facility security and protection; assigned to US Army/NATO Luxembourg. Ed was a loving husband of Marian Joyce Hansen for 54 years and they enjoyed their many adventures. Ed was preceded in death by his brother John Hansen and sons Mark Hansen and Greg Hansen and granddaughter Patricia Brown. He is survived by the love of his life Marian Joyce Hansen; and children Sherry Lynn Carl (Dave); Lisa Lorraine Zigler and Patti Anne McLean (Bob). He is also survived by his grandchildren Sean McLean, Andrea Ulfich (Berto), Brian Hansen, Zack Carl (Marissa), Kristy Ortiz, Kaitlynne Zigler; and ten great-grandchildren. Ed enjoyed his family, travel, camping, boating, fishing, woodworking, ham radio, and mechanics. Ed belonged to the ARRL, BPOE, AMERICAN LEGION and VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity.
