 STAMM, ROBERT JENNE A life well-lived has come to an end. Robert Jenne Stamm died December 14, 2014, at age 93. Bob was a life-long resident of Albuquerque, where he spent his adult life working to enrich his city and state. He was born November 17, 1921 to Roy Allen Stamm and Elizabeth Baldridge Stamm, whose families moved to New Mexico in the early 1880s. His older brothers, Allen Stamm and William Stamm, predeceased him. Bob was interested in everything and everyone. He relished all good deeds, fair play, and achievements. Bob was a man of few words, but of tireless action and service. He was amazingly calm, yet he loved competition, whether it was playing tennis, skiing, poker, or bidding a job. It should be noted, however, that there was no win unless it was "fair and square." He played golf, but mostly because it was outside and he could bet on it. From the age of 10, Bob had a tennis racket in his hand. In high school, he never lost a singles match and was a four-time State champion. At UNM, he was on the tennis and track teams, and on the first UNM Ski Team. UNM has lost its most devoted fan. He was still attending Lobo games. He went in a wheelchair to his last Lobo basketball game on December 3, 2014. Bob earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from UNM in 1942. After college, he joined the Navy and attended the Naval Academy Graduate Architectural School. He served four years in WWII, including 22 months on a ship in the South Pacific. He continued in the Naval Reserves and retired with the rank of Commander USN in 1968. In 1943, he married his childhood sweetheart, Florence Bradbury. After the war, he went to work for her father, OG Bradbury, in his construction company. Bob began as a laborer, and then was a timekeeper, an estimator, and eventually President of Bradbury Stamm Construction Co. He has been Chairman Emeritus since 1999. Bob was immensely proud of the many major buildings BSC built over the years. New Mexico Private 100 awarded BSC "Most Admired Company" seven times. Bob was a builder to his core. He loved seeing buildings and communities grow. He was a believer that people working together can do great things. He served on more than 30 professional and civic organizations throughout his career, which include, most notably: Albuquerque Community Foundation Lifetime Trustee, Albuquerque Business Education Compact Founding Chairman, UNM Development Fund Chairman, Greater Albuquerque Community Educational Alliance Founding Chairman, and on the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education, where he served 11 years by appointment of four Governors. Bob was honored with more than 25 awards for service in the fields of education, business, arts, and civic development, which include, most notably: "UNM Regents Recognition Medal", "UNM Engineer of the Year," by the Albuquerque Chapter of the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers, the State of NM "Lifetime Achievement, Distinguished Public Service Award", the "Centennial Alumnus for UNM," by the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, State of New Mexico's "Outstanding Leader in Philanthropy", UNM Engineering's Distinguished Alumnus Award", UNM's "Zimmerman Award", State of New Mexico's "Ethics in Business, Individual Award", United Way of Central New Mexico's "Lifetime Achievement Award", and Leadership New Mexico's "Distinguished Leadership Award". In 2009, Bob received an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering from UNM. He was blessed with a wonderful marriage to Florrie for 63 years until her death in 2006. He was blessed again when he married Mary Culver Herring in 2009, to the delight of his children and friends. Mary was by his side until his death. Bob's family who survive him are: son, Dr. R. Brad Stamm and wife, Victoria Stamm; daughter, Susan Stamm Evans and husband, Dick Evans all of Santa Fe; his wife, Mary Herring, and her children and their families: Denny and Tonya Herring, Bill and Cheri Herring, Nancy Herring and Matthew Segura, and John and Debra Herring all of Albuquerque; his grandchildren, Monique and Mark Rochester of Nambe, Karen Evans and Lisa Marchese of Albuquerque, and Kate and Eric Schwarz of Scottsdale, AZ; great grandchildren: Chase Rochester, Zoe and Sasha Evans, and Sarah Schwarz. Bob was a total family man. Whether it was his children, their spouses, their children, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, or their children, he took a personal interest in each of them and was interested in their interests.
