 BEMIS, WILLIAM E. William E. Bemis, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully in his home on December 13, 2014 with his family at his bedside, three days after his 72nd birthday. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kitty C. Bemis, his daughter, Kristi Bemis-Standoli and her husband, Francesco Standoli, grandchildren, Luca William and Emmy Kay Standoli, his sister, Shirley Nielson, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Allen and Eleanor Bemis, his brother Ralph (Skip) Bemis, sister, Florence Hall, and niece, Vanessa Nielson. Bill was an Eagle Scout and an Explorer Leader of the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. As a member of St. John's Episcopal Church he served as an acolyte. He graduated from Albuquerque High in 1960 and was a member of the tennis team. He joined the Marine Reserves and later began working in the sheet metal trade until he suffered a catastrophic stroke on August 21, 1979. Thus, he began his long journey in rehabilitation to regain his strength and skills. Bill persevered in his recovery and was determined to lead a full life. Several years later, he opened his own Heating and Air-Conditioning business and with hard work maintained a successful business until his retirement in 2004. Bill was relentless in enjoying life with each new day. He enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. He continued to participate in individual sports, enjoyed Lobo Sports, bridge, and socializing with friends. With the help and encouragement of a good friend, Bill began woodworking. He made many treasured gifts, which he enjoyed giving to others. He was admired by many for his determination to lead an active life. He was a most gracious and generous host and enjoyed entertaining his friends. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Bill will be greatly missed and never forgotten by those who knew him. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel with a reception following. Special thanks to Hospice of New Mexico and to the staff of A Nurse in the Family for the loving care they showed to Bill.
