Obituary for HOPKINS

HOPKINS, OFA J. Ofa Bass Hopkins, 99, peacefully passed away in her Apex home on November 25, 2014. She was born in Prentiss, Mississippi to O.C. and Della Bass. She was one of ten children, nine of whom have preceded her in death. A remaining sister, Elaine Bass Barnette is of Austin, TX. Her husband of 47 years, E.M. Hopkins died in July of 1989. Her family moved to Arizona where she graduated from high school in Temple, AZ. While working in Phoenix, she met and married Marvin and later they moved to California. They moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Marvin worked for Sandia Laboratories until his retirement in 1972. Albuquerque was her home until she moved to Apex, NC in 1999. She worked for the Baptist State Convention of New Mexico in the Men's Dept. and later moved to the Woman's Missionary Union before her retirement. She and Marvin loved to travel in their motor home going from the east to the west. She was an active member of Crestview Baptist and Highland Baptist churches in Albuquerque and was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Apex. She leaves three daughters, Carolyn Hopkins, Apex, NC; Marilyn Hopkins, Fenton, MI; Margaret H. Mathews, Hermitage, TN; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews who all have enjoyed their "Aunt Ofa", because she made them feel important and enjoyed their visits with her in Albuquerque. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 2 PM at Westwood Baptist Church in Cary. The family will receive friends prior and after the service. The family would like to give special thanks to Beth Ward for her loving care of their mother in the last months of her life and to her wonderful neighbors who have also been very thoughtful. Memorial and Graveside Services will take place at French's Mortuary and Sunset Gardens in Albuquerque, New Mexico at a later date.
