 ABBOTT, STEPHEN ALEXANDER Born September 16, 1968, Stephen died unexpectedly in his home at the age of 46 on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Avery Abbott of New Hampshire; and his mother, Mary Jo (Donnelly) Abbott of California. Stephen is survived by his wife, Denise Clement; his younger brother, Jeff Abbott; his daughter, Alexandria (Abbott) Miranda and her husband, Jonathan Miranda; and his aunt, Diana Donnelly. Steve was fiercely devoted to education and learning. He returned to school later in life, earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology from UNM, graduating with honors. He found solace in providing service to others and this became his life's work. He felt gratitude from his work at All Faiths and the UNM Mental Health Center, recognizing the need to serve the most vulnerable people in our community. Steve worked for Social Security Disability Determination Services for the last nine years, earning many honors for his performance. His various positions allowed him to passionately serve the people of New Mexico, humanizing mental and physical illness. Steve provided encouragement, genuineness, and dedication to those around him. In his supervisory role with DDS, he endeavored to provide the kind of inspiration and positive guidance he valued most in leadership. His family will remember him for his loyalty, love and friendship. Above all, Steve was most proud of the young woman his daughter has become, particularly her wisdom, her independence and her compassionate spirit. Her entrance into his life gave him the inspiration and determination to become the best person he could be. In celebration of Steve, a gathering took place on Thursday, November 20, 2014.
