Obituary for FLANAGAN

FLANAGAN, ROBERT JOSEPH Husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, photographer, pilot, veteran, philanthropist, gentleman, traveler and hiker, passed away, Sunday, November 16, peacefully at home. Born August 10, 1924 in Alexandria, MN to John T. and Clara Flanagan. He attended St. Thomas College, St. Paul, MN and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 as a pilot and served through 1945. Robert graduated from UNM on June 6, 1949, with a BS in education and went to work for Sandia Laboratories. He started Dikewood Corp with partners and retired from Dikewood in 1985. He volunteered as a spiritual director, was a founding member of the American Association for Medical Systems and Informatics and supported the Pediatric Oncology Program at the UNM School of Medicine, and the UNM Cancer Center, and the Veterans For Peace. He developed a Bio Intensive Gardening Project for feeding African nations, a continuing program. Robert was preceded in death by wife Marcella, grandson Joshua Chisholm; daughter Debbie Flanagan. He is survived by wife Virginia; daughters Laura and Patti Flanagan, Mary Sue Walsh, Katie Walsh, Maureen Walsh; son Paul Walsh; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. A Rosary was recited on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven.
