MCCLURE, VELMA F. Velma F. McClure went to be with the Lord on November 6, 2014. She was born October 22nd, 1926 on the Turkey Track Ranch outside Dexter, New Mexico. Her father, Casey Jones, was a lawman, cow puncher and eventually retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Her mother was Cleffie S. Jones. She is survived by her two sons, Capt. J. Craig McClure and Dr. Bruce McClure with his wife Peggy, of Albuquerque. Her grandchildren: Seth McClure and wife Beth, of Madison, Wisconsin and Capt. Gideon McClure and wife Cynthia of Cedar Park, Texas. Her four great-grandchildren: Gus, Maggie, Toby and Maisie. Her sister June Van Zant of El Paso, Texas and her brother Sgt. Bert Jones and wife Jeanene of Ft. Collins, Colorado as well as her sister-in-law Gail Jones of Rio Rancho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. J. C. McClure, and by her brothers, Petty Officer Ralph Jones and Lt. Dean Jones, NMSP. Velma grew up in the Tularosa Valley and started working at Deming Army Air Field in 1942 where she met her husband "Mac." She worked for various government agencies at Ft. Bliss, Ft. Wingate and as an administrative assistant with Dr. Clyde Tombaugh, discoverer of Pluto and Wernher Von Braun, one of the fathers of rocket science. Velma also worked for the Albuquerque Public Schools from the 1960's into the 1980's. Her best times, she would say, were spent as a military wife traveling the world. She earned her Bachelor's degree at the University of New Mexico in 1985. She loved sports and games of chance; she and Mac were nationally ranked Bridge players.Vel enjoyed her grandchildren and grand-dogs and loved being outdoors, especially if flowers were in bloom. Always the gracious hostess, she also gave as good as she got, and had true grit. A friend to anyone in need and quick to laugh, smile and enjoy a joke. She will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune to know her and the honor to call her friend. Baptized in the Anglican faith at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in 1954 where the circle of her earthly life will end with a service at 10am on Friday, November 14th, 2014 at the church, located at 601 Montano Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. She will then be laid to rest with her husband of 44 years at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at a graveside service starting at 3pm.
