Obituary for GUTSCHER

GUTSCHER, DOROTHY SWAIN Dorothy Swain Gutscher died September 24, 2014, just two days before her 82nd birthday. Born in Tucumcari, she lived her entire life in New Mexico. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, W. Daril Gutscher of Albuquerque; her sons, and their families, Mark and Diane Gutscher of Albuquerque and David and Mary Gutscher and their son, Brian of Colorado Springs, CO; her sister-in-law, Lynda Sipes of Ft. Collins, CO; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse T. and Rowena Swain, and by her granddaughter, Alicia Gutscher. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1950 and UNM in 1954 with a degree in accounting. She worked at IBM in Albuquerque until she married in 1958. She was a member of Alpha Delta PI and was active in Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque and the First United Methodist Church in Los Alamos. While in Los Alamos, she served in several capacities at the Church including Church Treasurer and Financial Secretary. She was also involved in helping start the Ark Child Development Center and served as its part time Assistant Director until she moved back to Albuquerque. At CUMC, she was a member of the Partnership Class, sang in the choir, and was a Co-Chair of the task force that started the Little Sunbeams Child Development Center. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidering, and needlepoint. Dorothy did the needlepoint for several of the kneeling cushions that are still in use in the Church Sanctuary. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was laid to rest on September 26, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM on October 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Sharp officiating. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the music program or to the Little Sunbeams Child Development Center Scholarship fund at Central United Methodist Church.
