DOUGLASS, WILLIAM M. BRIGADIER GENERAL 23 February 1942 - 19 September 2014 Brigadier General William M. Douglass passed away on 19 September after losing his struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. General Douglass was born in Belen, N.M., in 1942, and graduated from Belen High School in 1960. After graduating from the US Air Force Academy in 1964, the general attended pilot training at Laredo Air Force Base, Texas, where he married his high school sweetheart, the former Irene Radcliffe of Belen. In June 1970, he left to fly 202 combat missions in the F-4 out of Phu Cat Air Base, South Vietnam. His 33 yr AF career took him to assignments in Germany, AZ, South Korea, N.M., Turkey, England, GA, and the Pentagon. After 9 more years in the private sector, General Douglass and his wife retired to Corrales, NM, where he served on the Compadres board and volunteered at the Visitor's Center. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, with a brilliant mind, a quick wit and a huge heart. He loved flying, movies, classic country music, playing poker, spending time with his family and friends and traveling with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Irene; his son Ted; his daughter-in-law Jenny; his grandson Jonah; his granddaughters Tess and Tatum; his son Bill; his daughter-in-law Betsy; his grandson Liam and granddaughter Clare. A memorial service is scheduled for 18 Oct at 11 a.m. at Eagle Ranch Church located at 9660 Eagle Ranch Rd, Suite 6. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation to an Alzheimer's charity.
