Obituary for HERVEY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday September 19, 2014

HERVEY, LEAH Leah was born in Lewistown, PA, in 1923. She had a sad childhood. When she was 8 years old, she and her siblings became "County Kids", living with families who needed extra hands. Her parents simply gave them away because they could not feed them during the Depression. Despite moving from family-to-family, she was chosen to be Valedictorian of Milroy High School. She married and had six children. Three of her children, Ellen, Steve and Guy, have preceded her in death. Leah's second husband, Harry, moved their family to NM in 1962 to start a new life. She graduated from NMHU in 1973 and joined the Peace Corps. She helped deliver babies near Liberia, Africa. In retirement, they became RV "full-timers", traveling all over the country, visiting their kids and making friends everywhere. After settling back in Albuquerque, she could be found at the Senior Centers where she played Scrabble regularly. We will miss you, Mom. You taught us that we make our happiness. We have learned resiliency, acceptance of all people, and gratitude for our blessings. Love from Trudy, David and Josh Merriman, ABQ; Jeanne & Bill Romig, Lewistown, PA; Susan and Ken Johnson, West Palm Beach, FL; Romig, Howard and Hollett families, North Pole, AK; Osborne family, Chesterfield, VA; and many loved ones everywhere.
