DICKSON, MELVIN L. July 3, 1921 - March 27, 2014 The Dickson family is saddened to announce the death of Melvin "Mel" Dickson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Mel blessed us with a wonderful 92 years of love, friendship and many smiles. Melvin was born July 3, 1921 in Anson, KS to Jesse and Edna Dickson the eldest of two sons. Melvin married Gladys Faye Close August 10, 1943. They celebrated 70 years of wedded bliss August 10, 2013. Melvin proudly served his country in World War II from 1942 to 1946 as Military Police in the European theatre. He retired from General Electric in 1986 after 31 years. Prior he worked for Cessna Aircraft and the Coleman Company. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church (formerly Harwood) for 62 years. One of Mel's passions was woodworking which he excelled at. He loved the outdoors. He was one of the founding members of the North Valley Little League in 1963. He and Gladys ran the concession stand for five years. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Gladys, sons Clark and wife Anne Dickson of Odessa, TX, Russ Dickson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, brother Robert Dickson of Wellington, KS, sister-in-law Donna Roth of Casper, WY, Grandsons Jesse Dickson of Albuquerque, NM, Ben and wife Crystal Dickson of Midland, TX; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Brody, Mackenzie and Brinlee of Midland, TX, nieces Pam and husband Scott Jones, Michelle and husband Mike Loomer, nephews Larry and Kim Roth, Jerry Dickson, grand-nieces Emily, Crystal, Melissa, Britta, Analise, great-nephews Morgan, Phillip and Eric. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the loving care he received, especially from Valerie, Christina and Marla. Services were held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Grace United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
