Obituary for POLITO

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 30, 2014

POLITO, FLORENCE (PHYLLIS) M. 78, returned to the Lord and a long awaited reunion with her beloved husband Gene on Sunday, March 23, 2014. Phyllis was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 22, 1936 and relocated to Albuquerque, NM in 1960. She then relocated to Las Vegas, NV in 2011. Phyllis suffered from numerous illnesses over the past 15 years but through the grace of God, the love of her family and her own personal strength she managed to live as normal a life as possible. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and giving to those less fortunate when she could. Phyllis was known by many as "prayer central" because of her diligence in praying for those in need. Most recently, while living in Las Vegas she was able to enjoy shopping, performances by some of her favorite entertainers from the past, and new dining experiences. On very rare occasions, she would throw a few dollars into the slot machines in memory of Gene. While in Albuquerque, Phyllis was a long-time member of John XXIII Catholic Community and upon arriving in Las Vegas a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Community. She lost the love of her life and husband Gene after 54 years of marriage in 2008 and was also preceded in death by her mother, Marie and father James. Phyllis is survived by son Gene and daughter-in-law Joan of Albuquerque; daughter, Lisa and son-in-law Rick Baker of Las Vegas, NV; son, Tony and daughter-in-law Kelly, of Atlanta, GA; son Andy and daughter-in-law Kelli and grandsons Joey and Dominic, of Scottsdale, AZ; brother Niel Pezzillo of Las Vegas, NV; sister Mary Ann and husband Dr. Gary Schroeder of Albuquerque as well as a large extended family in Pennsylvania, Albuquerque and Nevada. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Drive, NE, Albuquerque, NM. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at John XXIII Catholic Community at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Greg Schroeder, Mike Schroeder, Steve Schroeder, Brian Pezzillo, David Pezzillo and Tom Ortega. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joey Polito and Dominic Polito. Phyllis was blessed to be surrounded by family who loved her and she will be deeply missed. Phyllis' desire was that her remains are cremated and her ashes be placed with her husband in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in Phyllis' name be made to the Arthritis Foundation at www.arthritis.org/annualreport/ how-to-donate.php or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org/donate. Funeral services have been entrusted to: Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
