Obituary for AMAYA

AMAYA, EDELMIRO Age 73, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 2002, died Saturday, March 15, 2014. A beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother; he is survived by spouse of 48 years, Yolanda Amaya of Albuquerque, NM; three children, Edward Amaya and wife, Michelle of Reynoldsburg, OH, Diana Amaya-Brown and husband, Kenneth of Albuquerque, NM and Julie Amaya of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Ethan Amaya, Nathaniel Amaya, Avery Amaya, and Garreck Brown; mother, Anita Amaya; and siblings, Edmundo Amaya, Annie Amaya-Rivera, Julia Amaya, Benjamin Amaya, Raul Amaya, Juan Amaya, Sandra Amaya-Morado, and Josie Amaya-Montemayor. Mr. Amaya was preceded in death by his father, Jose Cruz Amaya, Sr.; brother, Jose Cruz Amaya, Jr.; and his nephew, Jose Cruz Amaya III. Mr. Amaya was a proud member of the armed forces and retired from the military as a CW4 after 32 years of service. During his military service he received many medals and commendations to include the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Star(s) and the Legion of Merit Award while serving in the USMC and the USAR. Mr. Amaya received a college degree at Texas A&M University. He was an avid reader and enjoyed everything related to history. Mr. Amaya was a member of the St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 8:15 a.m. and the celebration of Mass at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM, with Rev. Msgr. Lambert J. Luna, Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM at 1:30 p.m. He is now home with God and forever in our hearts.
