Obituary for HATLESTAD

HATLESTAD, JUANITA JO went to be with the Lord March 15th, 2014 at 80 years of age. She was born January 1st, 1934, during a blizzard, to Leonard and Pearl Lien on a farm in Rock Country, Minnesota. She attended public schools in Hills, MN where she graduated as the High School valedictorian in 1952. She continued her education at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD graduating with honors in English and Philosophy in 1956. She received a Danforth Scholarship enabling her to further her education at Union Theological Seminary in New York City where she received a Master of Religious Education degree in 1959. It was here that she met and married her husband, Roger Hatlestad. Together they served in churches in Brooklyn, NY; Sioux Falls, SD; Cedar Rapids, IA; Carlinville, IL; and Bella Vista, AR. From 1985 - 86 they joined the Music College Faculty in Bergen, Norway. In 2007 they moved to Bernalillo, NM to be near their daughter, Rebecca after the effects of Alzheimer's had begun to affect her many talents. In all of the above locations, Juanita was a loving wife and mother along with a devoted Bible teacher, choir member, and vocal soloist. She blessed others through her many artistic endeavors as a potter, painter, weaver, quilter, knitter, and seamstress. She is survived by her loving husband, Roger, and two sons, Christopher of Portland, OR; Peter and Sarah of Walworth, WI; a daughter Rebecca of Albuqueruqe, NM; a sister Connie Eitreim of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren, and 10 nieces and nephews. A daughter Lisa Marie, her parents, her brother Perry Lien of Huntington Beach, CA and her sister Sonja Kurland of Bella Vista, AR, precede her in death. Blessed be her memory. Memorial Service to be held at Central United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.
