CHAVEZ, JOSE D. Age 92, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 16, 2014. He was born in Cuba, NM and was a resident of Bernalillo, NM. Jose served in Italy during World War II where he received a Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and taking care of animals. Jose will be fondly remembered by his terrific sense of humor and his love for telling stories. He was preceded in death by his in death by his parents, Santiago Chavez and Dolores Sandoval; brothers, Genaro Chavez, Alfredo, Abel, and Jose Manuel Sandoval; an sister, Guadalupe Carrillo. Jose is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Mary Lou Chavez; his children, Deluvina Casias, Eliseo Chavez and wife Gloria, Joe Chavez, and Sharon Gonzales and husband Miguel; numerous grandchildren; his sister, Evan Gutierrez; and his four legged companion, Chiquita. Jose will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. also at the Church. Interment will be Monday, March 24, 2014 at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Pallbearers will be Abel Sandoval, Ray Casias, Servando Perez, Reyes Perez, Joe Arellano, Douglas Largent, Eddie Molinar, and Gilbert Aragon. Honorary Bearers will be Chris Casias, Johnny Carrillo, Manuel Pena, Joseph Valdez, Ben Chavez, and Robert Chavez.
