ELIAS, CHARLIE Age 81, owner of Charlie's Front and Back Door, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 after a short illness. Charlie is survived by his son, Jamie Elias; daughters Jehan Elias and Pam Trent; granddaughters Lori and Abby; sister Sissy Elias and brother Dick Elias; two special family members Patti Morrison and Steve Arias, Godson Jamie Morrison and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Franchini Basham. Charlie was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and served in the United States Army during the Korean War, after which he started his career working for his Uncle Joe Martinez at the Sunset Inn. Charlie later opened his first restaurant along with his brother, The Paddock Supper Club and Silver Spur Fried Chicken. In 1965, he opened his own business called Charlie's Liquors. In 1966, he built Charlie's Back Door and in 1971, opened Charlie's Front Door. From the 1970s-mid90s, his other ventures included Fanny Farkle's and Charlie's Other Door. Charlie had many dear and dedicated employees over the years, some of whom are Polly Lyons, Arnold Morano, Bridget Windle, Melecio Ortega and Paul Griego. Charlie is joining many best friends, including Ron Morrison, John Tetter, Dick Chess, Dick Campbell and Chuck Edmonds. Charlie was a special host, as he was always there to greet you. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas, with a reception to follow at Jamie's home for friends and family.
