ESCOBEDO, JOSEPH D. "SCOOBY" We regret to report the death of Joseph D. Escobedo "Scooby". He was 63 years of age and passed away suddenly on December 14, 2013. He was born in Ruidoso, New Mexico. After moving to Albuquerque, on October 4, 1976 he joined the Albuquerque Fire Department and after serving over 21 years with the department and his community he retired on December 31, 1997. He was a member of the 29th Cadet class. After completing his probation he was promoted to firefighter 1st class. Later he was certified as an EMT-Paramedic and served as a driver and Lieutenant on the rescue. In December 1987, he was appointed as Quality Assurance Officer with the rescue program. After three years in that position, he transferred back to the field and took a position as a rescue Lieutenant. Following his retirement Joe had a successful career as an EMT instructor. He was exceptionally proud of being a firefighter and an EMT-Paramedic. He loved being a firefighter and was good natured and had a good sense of humor. He was well respected by his fellows and supervisors alike. He was a member of the AFD Retired Firefighter's Association. He also worked for Superior Ambulance and UNMH Lifeguard. His family has requested a Firefighter's Funeral along with Marine Corps military honors. Mr. Escobedo was preceded in death by his mother Lila Escobedo and his father Joseph F. Escobedo. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gina Escobedo; son, Joseph Escobedo (Jamie); daughters, Lisa Escobedo (Esther Esquivel), and Tanja Rodarte (Randy); his brother, Lino Escobedo (Becky); his sisters, Linda Trujillo (Larry) and Willa Gallup (Wes); 4 grandchildren: Dominic & Damian Rodarte, Joseph Dominic II & Jaxon Hayes Escobedo; one great-grandchild, Jeremiah Rodarte. Mr. Escobedo's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation in the Reflection of Life Chapel, Wednesday, December 18th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Rosary will be held Wednesday at 7:00p.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 9:00 a.m. also at the Shrine of St. Bernadette's followed by Entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
