Obituary for HAEFKER

HAEFKER, OLA L ESTEP passed away November 30th, 2013 at the age of 98 years. She was born in Canadian County, Oklahoma, near El Reno, on November 28th, 1915. She grew up and graduated High School in Elk City, Kansas and received a teaching certificate from Pittsburg Teachers College. She met Daniel W Haefker while teaching near Coffeyville, Kansas, and they married on May 22nd, 1937. Ola was very musically and artistically talented. She played both piano and organ for the enjoyment of herself and her family, she also played for church services at Sunnyside Country School in Kansas when she was a young woman. As an artist, she worked in oils, pastels and watercolors, and her pieces have been collected across the United States, by individuals and businesses alike. She has won numerous awards in multiple states, and she taught art classes for several years. Many of her students have received awards for their work as well. Ola loved painting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved growing her beautiful flower gardens. She was preceded in death by Daniel, her husband of 39 years, her brother, Carl A. Estep Jr (NM), three daughters, Ruthann Taylor (MN), Janis Haefker (NM), Mary Katherine Walker (WI) one grandson and one great-grandson. Ola is survived by one daughter, Linda Maedgen (UT); seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Thursday, December 5th, 2013, from 5-7pm at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow on Friday, December 6th, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. with Rev. Gary Thur conducting. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jake Maedgen, Spenser Maedgen, Ken Robinson and Travis Robinson.
