Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday December 01, 2013

WHEELER, ADELINE J. Adeline Juanita Wheeler died in her home, late in the evening, Sunday, November 24, 2013, with family at her side. She was born on a cotton farm in Cooke County, Texas, July 6, 1922, the eldest of six children, to Robert Coleman Green and Vivian Lorena Russie Green, nee Ayres. She graduated college during World War II and taught elementary school for several years in the panhandle of Texas. During those same years, she corresponded with a young GI stationed in North Africa and Italy. Their friendly letters became love letters and Joel Walton Wheeler, Jr. and Adeline were wed in 1946 after his safe return from the War. The couple, with their growing family, lived in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Paris, France before moving to New Mexico in the 1980's after Joel's retirement. Adeline was active in Monte Vista Christian Church until the end. For decades she was a facilitator in People Living through Cancer. As well, she played recorder with the local Recorder Society. And her vegetable gardens were always fertile and productive. Her life-long philosophy was simple: "God is love. I want to love all people and I want people to love me." Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Wheeler, Jr., by her daughter, Karen Marie Niblock who was married to Henry Niblock III, and by her younger brother, Weldon Green. She leaves behind her sister, Virginia Alley, her brother R.C Green, Jr., her sister, Glenda Renner, and brother, Bo Green. She also leaves her son, Joel Wheeler III and his wife, Evelin Wheeler; her son, Jan Ray Wheeler and his wife, Venetia Fregni; and her daughter, Janine Kay Wheeler and Kay's husband Frank Ferrara. Her grandchildren are Shem Lewis, married to Jeff Lewis; Shana Morrison, married to Curt Frager; Caleb Wheeler, married to Alexa Wheeler; Micah Citrin, married to Karen Citrin; Aaron Citrin, married to Casey Citrin; and Anna Yourstone. Her great grandchildren are Mose Wheeler, Shosha Wheeler, Phineas Wheeler, Sophie Lewis, Noam Lewis, Itai Citrin, Yonah Citrin, Levi Citrin and Tari Morrison-Frager. The list above does not include all those dear friends and adopted family members that this lovely woman of faith collected in her long, caring life. Her very large heart carried all of you as well.
