MARTINEZ, GEORGIA (GOLLA) Georgia Martinez passed from this world on Friday, November 1, 2013 when she took the Lord's hand into hers and followed Him into heaven. Georgia was born Gregorita Alneda on September 12, 1925 to Genaro and Francisquita Madrid in Cebolla, NM. Her family and friends know her as Golla. Georgia is survived by her children; sons, Richard Martinez and wife, Dolores and John Martinez of Albuquerque, Bill Martinez and wife, Barbara of Peralta N.M. and daughter, Christine Consuelo Martinez-Garcia of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Blythe Mireles and husband, Edward, Antonia Palma and husband, Brian, Lisa Guevara, Gavin Martinez, Michael Martinez (partner Melissa), Monica Martinez, Ana Garcia (partner Charles Martinez) and Rudy Garcia II; great-grandchildren, Rudy Garcia III, Alejandro Emilio Mireles, Inapo Rai Palma, Cruz Antonio Guevara, Justen Martinez, Frances Martinez and Adriana Martinez; beloved brother, Modesto Madrid of Canjilon NM; sisters, Rose Madrid of Rio Rancho, Cora Martinez and husband, Jimmy of Cebolla, Betty Galaz of California, and baby sister, Grace Bustos of Albuquerque whom she helped raise from birth; beloved sister-in-law and friend, Cidelia Miera of Espanola, sister-in-law, Faby Martinez of Chimayo, and close friends, Abbie Jaramillo, Lillie Martinez and Juanita Saavedra of Albuquerque. Georgia also had numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Georgia is preceded in death by her husband, Jose (Joe) Lisandro Martinez; parents, Genaro and Francisquita Madrid; infant sister, Esperanza Consuelo; and brother, Juan Isidro Madrid. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH Lomas, with her nephew Father Charlie Martinez reciting. A reception will follow. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. S.E., Albuquerque, NM., 87106, with Father Charlie Martinez Celebrant. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. following the mass. Pallbearers are; Rev. J. D. Miera, Steven Miera, Steve Otero, Ross Martinez, Genaro Madrid and Honorable Joseph Madrid. Georgia helped her parents in raising their family, worked on the family farm and attended school in Cebolla, NM. Georgia was a proficient homemaker by 8 or 9 years of age. Her nurturing instincts that were developed during those times remained with her throughout her life. At the outbreak of WWII, Georgia moved to Denver Colorado to live with her brother, Modesto, and worked at the Kaiser Denver Ordinance Plant for five years as a "bomb girl". Georgia wrote to her future husband Jose Lisandro Martinez while he served in Europe as part of a medical unit during this time. Georgia then moved on to work as a cook at Fitzsimons Army Medical Hospital near Denver. At the end of WWII Georgia married her husband upon his return from U.S. Army service. They settled in Albuquerque where Georgia worked as a waitress while her husband worked in construction and had treatment at the Veteran's Hospital for injury received during the war. While working as a waitress, Georgia became an avid Chicago Cubs fan through her contact with Chicago travelers passing thru Albuquerque. Georgia travelled to Denver and Phoenix to see her beloved Cubs play and rarely missed a televised game. Georgia was a loyal UNM Lobo basketball fan and attended countless games with her UNM student-son Richard or her friend Juanita Saavedra. Georgia was very active in the Democratic Party and served in various positions as a volunteer. Democratic office holders and candidates would often come to her home to solicit her support and be treated to her acclaimed home cooking. Georgia served as Precinct #19 Chairwoman for many years and was a delegate to the New Mexico Constitutional Convention in 1969. Georgia later operated her own catering service using the skills she developed as a child and while working in the food service business. Georgia was a life-long devout Catholic and was a member of the Blue Army and Sacred Heart Society. Georgia loved attending Sunday Mass and having breakfast after Mass with her children. Georgia was also a Red Hat Society member. Georgia's greatest joy was being with her great-grandchildren during their frequent visits to her home that is filled with toys and pictures of her family.
