Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday August 22, 2013

MORGAN, IVERNA Age 93, a 53-year resident of Albuquerque, passed away August 20. She was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma, December 27, 1919, and grew up in Oklahoma City. She was predeceased by husband, Harold Morgan; her parents, Verne and Gertrude Phelps; and sister, Betty Hartgers, all of Oklahoma City. Iverna and Harold's children are Connie Matzen of Raleigh, NC (Connie's husband is Vernon Matzen and her children are Sarick Matzen and Kathryn Matzen); Harold Morgan of Albuquerque (His wife is Susan Bennett and his children are Kathy Morgan and Tom Morgan); and Tom Morgan of Denver. (His wife is Alison Morgan and his son is Ryan Morgan). Iverna met Harold at Classen High School in Oklahoma City. They married in 1942 in Arlington, VA, in a classic World War II Greatest Generation whirlwind ceremony, just before Harold deployed to Africa. Uranium brought Harold, Iverna and their children to Albuquerque in 1960. Harold became the second full time general manager of Ranchers Exploration and Development Corporation, a firm holding mineral rights for properties in Ambrosia Lake. In 1976, at age 56, she started General Securities Transfer Agency Inc., specializing in stock transfer services for small public companies across the nation. She sold the company and retired in 2002 at age 82. Iverna was a strong, independent woman. In recent years, nothing pleased her more than having her family around the table to share a meal, tell stories and laugh. She especially enjoyed her card group. Iverna was active in the Eastern Star and Honored Ladies. Her service will be conducted by Tom Davis, chaplain of the New Mexico Shrine. Special thanks to Daniel Martinez, who helped Iverna maintain her home for 30 years, Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services, Presbyterian Hospice, and staff at Presbyterian Hospital. Additional and extra thanks to the consummate medical professionals who supported Iverna, especially Drs. Robin Tuchler and Neal Shaddoff, both amazing human beings. Also, Drs. Robert Wilson, Faith Shapiro. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 3:30 pm at FRENCH - University with a reception to follow. Donations in her honor may be made to the Ballut Abyad Shrine Childrens Hospital, 6600 Zuni SE, Albuquerque, 87108.
