Obituary for HELLING

HELLING, EMMA JEAN Emma was born on December 8, 1920. She passed away on July 30, 2013. Emma is predeceased by her spouse of 54 years, Kenneth Helling; parents: Adolph and Lucia Sanchez Rael, and her siblings: Frank Rael and Richard Rael. Emma is survived by her daughters: Yvonne Rodriquez and husband Pete, and Loretta Helling and her husband Rob Smith; her brother: Adolph Francis Rael Jr.; her sisters: Agatha Harris and Doris McGrew; grand-daughter: Jeannette Rodriquez; and great-grandsons: Mark Waid and Ethan Moore. Emma Jean along with her siblings, aunts and uncles participated in the Spanish dancing chorus directed by her mother, Lucia Sanchez Rael. Emma Jean won first prize in a Spanish dancing competition in Santa Fe when she was a teenager. Among other performances, they were part of the 1930s First American celebrations in Albuquerque. This four night show dramatized the history of the Southwest. Emma Jean attended Albuquerque High School, graduating in 1938. She enjoyed playing tennis, her favorite sport. Emma Jean worked for the War Department, Engineers' Office at Sandia Base from 1942 until marrying Kenneth W. Helling October 25, 1944 in Albuquerque, NM. She traveled extensively with Kenneth while he served in the Army during WWII. Kenneth served as a medic in the Army Air Corps. Both Emma Jean and Ken enjoyed doing woodcrafts and traveling in their motor home. They both belonged to the Immaculate Conception Ushers' Club and prayer group. Emma's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation held in the Reflection of Life Chapel (Washington and Cutler NE) on Tuesday, August 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (619 Copper Ave NW) on Wednesday, August 7, at 10:00 a.m. Emma's Life Celebration will conclude following Mass with committal at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Emma's pallbearers will be Pete Rodriquez, Rob Smith, and Richard Rael Jr. Please visit Emma's online guestbook at www.Reflectionoflife.com REFLECTIONS Funerals & Life Celebrations 2400 Washington Street NE 884-5777
