Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 04, 2013

ECKERMAN, EDWARD WALTER "WALLY" Age 61, a fourth generation New Mexican, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, August 1, 2013. He is survived by wife, Christy Eckerman; son; Elliot Eckerman; sisters, Nev Eckerman and Lois Eckerman both of Albuquerque; brother, Nevin Eckerman and wife Delia; nephews, Nevin and Nicklaus Eckerman of Mobile, AL; and niece, Rosemary Eckerman of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nevin and Mary Eckerman. "Wally" spent his career working for Qwest for over twenty years. Cremation has taken place and at "Wally's" request there will be no services. The family would like to share the following thoughts written by his son. "Once more into the fray, Into the last good fight I'll ever know, Live and die on this day. Live and die on this day. This morning, the man who taught me much of what I know and more importantly, guided me to become the person I am today - passed silently into the darkness of life, and journeyed to a more peaceful and forgiving place away from the pain and suffering he was going through. Someone who was always willing to help, and asked nothing in return for the favors he gave. Forever I will be grateful for the lessons I've learned, the memories I've had and the adventures we took together. Rest in peace Dad, you will be missed, but never forgotten." Because of his love for animals should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of New Mexico.
