Obituary for FISER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday June 16, 2013

FISER, MARY FRANCIS passed away early on the morning of Friday, May 3, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born June 29, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Nicholas and Alice Boccella. She grew up in the depression as the only girl along with her two brothers, Bernard and Michael. She met her husband Robert Morrison Fiser when they both were stationed in Naples, Italy in 1956 and married in 1957 in Philadelphia, PA. They were married for 23 years until Bob's untimely death November 12, 1980. Our mother was a trail blazer in her own right. We honor her memory as a determined, adventurous, and accomplished woman who not only served her country in the U.S. Navy and raised four successful children, but also broke through barriers for women by pursuing a Master's degree followed by a an accomplished career in Social Work at a time when women were notably discouraged from the pursuit of such independence. From the extraordinary to the ordinary she loved to do many things from traveling the world, to baking, to walking her dog in the early mornings. She attended church regularly, and enjoyed staying active by going to lunch with her friends and doing volunteer work. She leaves behind four children, Robin Fiser, Roberta Morris, Roanna McCoy, and Robert Fiser; grandchildren, Matthew and Madison McCoy, Kelsey and Katy Littell, Alexandra, Caroline, and Cassidy Fiser; sons-in-law Charlie Morris and Steve McCoy; daughter in-law, Tiffany Fiser. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all the staff at Aldea House for the tender loving care they gave to our Mom her last year of life. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30pm. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St. NW. ABQ. 505-343-8008.
