Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 26, 2013

JAMES, JACK K. Age 91, of Albuquerque, passed away May 17th. He is survived by his three loving children, Stephen James with wife Karyn, Kathy James with husband Fred Skoglund, and Terri James with husband Ben Krumpe, and also by his sister Frances Key with husband Edwin of Olney, Texas. His three grandchildren, Nathan, Melanie, and Eliza, and three great-grandchildren loved him dearly and will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Shortie (Mary Frances Windrow), who was the love of his life. Additionally, Jack had many close friends in Albuquerque and around the nation who will miss his friendship, love, and charisma. Jack and Shortie moved to Albuquerque in 1945, immediately after World War II, where he had served as a decorated officer with the 10TH Mountain Division in Italy. After completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, he established himself as a leading sales engineer in Albuquerque where he founded the firm of James, Cooke & Hobson, Inc. He founded and served as local president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) and served on the ASHRAE National Board of Directors for a number of years. Jack was also a charter member of Four Hills Country Club where he served twice as president and enjoyed his lifetime avocation of golf. Jack's family and his many friends know that he lived a long, fruitful, and generous life as a notable member of what Tom Brokaw called The Greatest Generation. At his request, the family will have a private graveside ceremony and a Celebration of Life event to be scheduled soon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The First Tee (www.thefirsttee.org), or to a favorite charity.
