Obituary for MURPHY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 26, 2013

MURPHY, NANCY ARLINE a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died on May 21, 2013 of atrial fibrillation and pneumonia. She was born in Portland, Maine, on September 23, 1932, the daughter of Orin H. Tyler and Miriam Adline (Glidden). Nancy attended the University of Maine in Orono, where she met Harry M. Murphy at a Maine Christian Association get-together. Harry was born in Presque Isle, Maine, on May 29, 1932, the son of Harry M. Murphy, Sr. and Dorothea Mae (Horsman). He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Physics in 1953. Nancy and Harry were married in Portland on June 11, 1955. They lived in Neptune, New Jersey for seven years while Harry was employed as a physicist at the Army Signal Corps Engineering Laboratory. In 1960, they moved to Albuquerque where Harry was employed as a physicist at the Air Force Weapons Laboratory. They have one son, Stanley Ammon Murphy, who was born on October 26, 1961. Stanley attended the University of Albuquerque and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. In 1983, Nancy bought the old Tyler Family cabin in the forest on the shore of Little Duck Pond from her mother's estate in 1983. Nancy called it "Tylehaven". She enjoyed summers at Tylehaven - the woods, the tall pine trees, the blueberry bushes, the squirrels, the chipmunks, the frogs and toads, and the soft wind in the tree-tops. Nancy had a strong interest in preserving the natural environment. She acquired 13 acres of woodland and issued a Conservation Easement to the Town of Windham allowing public access to this land in perpetuity, while protecting the land from live tree cutting, mineral extraction, construction of any kind, and all other development. Nancy also supported the Windham Land Trust in its efforts to acquire and preserve wild-lands. In conformance with Nancy's wishes, there will be no funeral or viewing.
