Obituary for QUILLEN

QUILLEN, LEON W. Age 76, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013, at home with his family by his side. Leon asked and received baptism on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He is survived by his wonderful daughter, Loretta and husband, Greg; his only son, Pat and wife, Cissy; and the love of his life, his wife, Lucille. Leon was blessed with six grandchildren, Justis, Taylor, Autumn, Richard, Rachel and Deshae. He was still very close with his last living brother, Marion and wife, Josie, of Pigsah Forest, NC. Leon lived a truly wonderful life. Born on March 25, 1937 in Tryon, NC, he was the youngest of seven children, with six brothers and one sister. He enlisted in the US Navy at 17 years of age and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served on the USS Hermitage and the USS Ticonderoga. Leon moved to Albuquerque in 1961 and worked at Safeway, where he met Lucille. He then spent the remainder of his career working for Delta Uniform and Linen for his good friend, Ray Randall. Leon had many good friends and family that he loved dearly. Specifically Bob Lovato and wife, Debbie, Richard Aranda and wife, Cecilia, Vic Padilla and wife, Mary Alice, Steve Mora and wife, Chris, Mike Moore and wife, Robyn, Javier Amparan and wife, Kristen, Chris Jones and wife, Yvonne, and Jack Jones and wife, Deena. Leon coached Little League baseball and was an avid sports fan. He loved to read, watch westerns, tell jokes, and do crossword puzzles. His greatest passion was following his beloved Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina. He enjoyed nothing more than watching them with his wife and son. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013, 3:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside. Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
