BRYANT, ROBERT HAMILTON Bob, 78, died Thursday, February 21, after a lengthy illness with kidney disease. He was preceded in death by his parents Cy and Peggy Bryant, and by his wife of 50 years, Carol Robbins Bryant. He is survived by his daughters Lisa Bryant and Kim Chesire; and by his four grandchildren, Lisa's son Dustin Heckroth, and Kim's children Ryan, Tyler and Cali. He is also survived by his only sibling, Marythelma Brainard and her three children Renee Gentz, Robert Brainard, and James Brainard, and their families. Bob was born in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, on July 23, 1934, and lived his first years in Bananera, Guatemala. For Bob's nephritis, in 1937 the family moved to New Mexico, his mother's home. His first language was Spanish, and command of this language was reinforced while in military service in Panama. Also from his time in Panama Bob developed a great skill in spear fishing that served well for countless stories. Bob's memory for names and events, personal and historical, was phenomenal. He had a broad and diverse interest in peoples, nationalities and cultures. Following military service, Bob obtained a B.A. at the University of New Mexico where he was active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity. From his Highland High School days, UNM, and Sigma Chi, Bob made life-long friendships that were a great joy to him. He was known for his integrity. As a businessman, Bob was an independent broker in the food industry. Here again, his greatest joy in business was the close and enduring relationship he maintained with his partners and every employee. Bob was an avid member of the Azayim Banquet Committee, Masonic Lodge #6, New Mexico Shrine. As a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, he stage managed the "Book of the Play" for many, many years. Bob and Carol loved New Mexico and spent years traveling to its scenic and historic spots, often with Shrine friends. They were a devoted couple and enjoyed a full life together raising their children and discovering the world around them. He will be deeply missed. A Masonic memorial service and reception will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2nd at the New Mexico Shrine Center, 6600 Zuni S.E. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shrine Perpetual Fund, 6600 Zuni S.E., Albuquerque, NM 87108.
