Obituary for POULOS

POULOS, GEORGE SOTERIOS Born on October 23, 1915, in Lasteika, Greece, Mr. Poulos passed away on February 14, 2013. He immigrated to the United States in 1927 and settled in North Platte, Nebraska, to live with an uncle, Sam Poulos, before moving to Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie S. Poulos, who died on December 5, 2000. He is survived by a daughter, Victoria Marie Moskos and her husband, Harry of Knoxville, Tennessee; by three grandchildren, Areti Klein and her husband, James of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; Xrisanthe Christopoulos and her husband, Christos, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Matthew Moskos and his wife, Jami, of San Diego, California, and by eleven great-grandchildren: Victoria, Anna Katherine, Andreanna, and Philip Klein, Stavroula, Alexandra, Eleni, Paraskevi and Lambros Christopoulos, and Xaris and Andreas Moskos. He is also survived by a sister in Greece, Paraskevi Matsoukas as well as nieces and nephews in Greece, and in Albuquerque by a sister-in-law, Georgia Kartas, and a niece, Eleni Maull. He is also survived by cousins John and Gus Poulos in Scottsdale, Arizona. While in Nebraska, he became a fan of the university football team and remained so until his death, regularly wearing a Cornhuskers' hat. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, acquiring the rank of staff sergeant, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In Albuquerque, he became a successful businessman. Mr. Poulos was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, as well as a life member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, based in Washington, D.C. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February, 17, 2013, at 6:00 pm, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, with the Trisagion to follow at 7:00 pm. Services will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Conan Gill and Rev. Deacon George Collaros officiating. Pallbearers will be, Nick Kapnison, Nick Manole, Costa Pavalakos, Michael Gemme, George Piches, and Monty Preonas. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
