Obituary for MCCONAUGHY

MCCONAUGHY, DAVID M. REVEREND A loving family man and active leader in both church and community, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 in Albuquerque. He was born May 15, 1927 in Stambaugh, Michigan. Dave was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Geneva Bryan McConaughy. He is survived by older sister Alice Hartbarger of Asheville, NC; younger brother John "Jeff" McConaughy of Atco, NJ; and younger Sister Mary "Bee" Cumberland of Tucson, AZ; his sons Mark McConaughy and his wife Marsha of Austin, TX, Jeff McConaughy and his wife Trish O'Connor of Albuquerque; and three grandchildren, Christa McConaughy of Tahoe City, CA, Craig McConaughy of Austin, TX, and Kathryn McConaughy of Albuquerque. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in Michigan in January of 1945, and from Park College in Missouri in 1948. From there he went to Princeton Seminary in New Jersey and was ordained as a Presbyterian minister on August 28, 1951. He was called to be pastor at churches in Ignacio and Allison, Colorado from 1952 to 1956. He was then organizing pastor for Woodland Chapel Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Illinois from 1956 to 1969. In 1969, he moved his family to Albuquerque to become the organizing pastor for Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, where he continued until retirement in 1992. During those years, he participated in a graduate program and received his Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Seminary in Chicago in 1978. A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Rd. NW at 11:00am on Friday, February 15, 2013.
