Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 03, 2013

STALEY, HUGH CAMPBELL Age 61, of Albuquerque, NM, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 26, 2013 while on a winter outing in his beloved mountains. Hugh was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, on August 8, 1951, and grew up in Providence and Saunderstown, RI. His parents were Margaret Campbell Staley and Andrew Staley. Hugh is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nancy Staley; four brothers, Andrew (Dito), Tim, Peter and David; step-mother, Norma Smayda Staley; many cousins, nieces, a nephew, aunts and an uncle; and many treasured sisters and brothers in Christ. Hugh graduated from Drew University May 1974 with a BA in Physics. He moved to Los Alamos in 1979 where he worked at Los Alamos Laboratory for almost 20 years in various groups, predominately as a software engineer. He was a teacher at heart, and taught computer classes on the side at UNM-Los Alamos for many years. He and his wife also taught Sunday school to the children and youth of their church. In 1998 they moved to Mid Coast Maine for 4 years. After leaving the Lab, Hugh taught computer programming courses through Learning Tree International until 2002, when he and his wife moved to Tunisia for 2 years. He taught English at a Tunisian University for two years. He also taught English through a private company in Sousse for one summer. After returning to New Mexico in 2005 and taking a brief retirement, he joined the computer tech support team at HP, Rio Rancho, where he worked up until his death. He still utilized his teaching skills by volunteering his time at Hope Christian School teaching robotics programming to young boys and girls. Hugh had a huge heart for people, and served them however he could. In the 1980s he served several years as a volunteer bus driver and two years as president for the Los Alamos Bus system. He was chairman of the Los Alamos chapter of the Salvation Army for several years before moving to Maine. He deeply cared for the Tunisian people he met, and hoped to return someday to visit friends and colleagues. He loved the Lord Jesus, and everything in his life was done for the love and glory of God. Hugh touched many lives and will be deeply missed. A memorial service for Hugh will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Mars Hill Church, 4700 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. Per Hugh's wishes, his ashes will be scattered on his land. His spirit is now with Jesus, a thing he looked forward to his whole Christian life. Memorial contributions may be made to Joy Junction, PO Box 26568, Albuquerque, NM 87125. (This charity supports the homeless in Albuquerque.)
