Obituary for ORTIZ

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 20, 2013

ORTIZ, RAY "SONNY" A life long resident of Martineztown, Sonny passed away on Jan. 4 at his home with family and friends at his side. Sonny is survived by his daughters Timmi, Kathy; son Ray Jr.; brothers Danny Ortiz, Cecilio Ortiz, Tony Baca of Seattle; several nieces, nephews, close cousins, many relatives and dear lifelong friends. Sonny always went out of his way to help anyone out. A plumber by trade, he often plied his trade based on a floating scale of whatever one in need could afford. For many, that rate was a warm meal and pat on the back. As a young man, Sonny was truely a gifted athelte who enoyed everything footbal and boxing. He enjoyed attending boxing and musical offerings at the old Civic Auditorium. Ray Charles and Fats Domino were some of his favorites. But Sonny, at an early age, elected to put family first and concentrated on providing for them and encouraging his siblings and family to be better but never forget your family or where you came from. Sonny's family would like to express our heart felt gratitude to all the extended family and his friends who comforted him in his last days. The time, energy, extremely generous contributions of many kinds and your prayers will forever be remembered. Thank You.
