 ANDERSON, STEVEN MARK "ROCKER" better known by his family and friends as "Rocker," was born in Abilene, Texas on June 18, 1963. Steven was tragically killed on December 24, 2012 when he was caught in an avalanche while snowboarding at the Donner Ski Ranch, Truckee, California. Steve was preceded in death by his mother Nan Louise (Claunch) Anderson and his sister Kimberly Marie Anderson. He is survived by his father F. Rod Anderson and step-mother Leilani Anderson; brother Chris Anderson and fiancee Hope McIntosh; his step-brother Jeff Ostermann and wife Suk Ostermann; step-brother Chris Ostermann and wife Monique Ostermann; step-sister Sue Supple and husband Dr. Robert Supple; Uncle Roger Anderson and wife Sherry Anderson; and many nephew, nieces and cousins. Steve attended Sandia High School before enlisting in the U.S Air Force in 1981 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1992. While in the USAF, Steve was deployed to bases worldwide and served in the Gulf war for nine months. After retiring from the service and being stationed at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, he moved to Truckee, where he ran his own welding shop in the summer, taught snowboarding in the winter, and was very active in World Cup Sk8boarding and X-Games for ESPN, building and judging events all over the world. Steve moved back to Albuquerque four years ago to be close to his family and to work as a welder and artist. But in June 2012, California beckoned, so he returned to Truckee and the mountains he so loved. Steve is to be inducted into the snowboarding Hall of Fame on April 16, 2013. An avid surfer who went to Ixtapa, Mexico, every year, Steve was also an accomplished guitarist, singer and metal sculptor artist. A man with a heart of gold, he always put his family first. We will dearly miss him. There will be a memorial service at the Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd N.E., on Saturday. January 12, 2013 at 10:30 AM. There will also be a memorial service in Truckee, California, on February 2, 2012 from 4:00-6:00pm at the Truckee-Donner Reception Hall to celebrate his life.
