JARAMILLO, LINDA GAUME Linda Lou Gaume Jaramillo of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 18, 2012. She was 61. Linda was a generous person who was always looking for a way to help others, whether through her work as an educator and researcher at the New Mexico Municipal League or her daily interactions with loved ones and strangers. Her extraordinary sense of empathy and compassion frequently led her to boldly act to try to improve the lives of other people and the world around her. She was keenly aware of injustice and deeply committed to fighting it. She was born April 14, 1951, in El Paso, Texas (a fact which, as a proud New Mexican, she admitted reluctantly) to Dorothy (Neatherlin) and Amos Gaume. The family lived in Anthony, New Mexico, before moving to Berkeley, California, for her father to attend seminary school when she was two years old. Amos' work as an Episcopal minister took the family, including brother Norman and sister Carolyn, to Deming and Hobbs. Linda graduated from Hobbs High School in 1969. She later lived in Las Cruces, San Patricio, Socorro, Albuquerque, and Corrales. In addition to her work as a mother of three, she was employed as the City Clerk and Administrator in the Village of Corrales, Business Administrator at Camp Stoney near Santa Fe, and for the last twelve years of her life at the New Mexico Municipal League in Santa Fe. There she developed and directed a program for training elected municipal officials; it included courses in ethics, leadership, and law. She named this program Municipal Officials Leadership Institute (MOLI) and into it she poured her passion for, and knowledge of, New Mexico culture, history, and government. She hoped that better preparing elected officials for their jobs would not only benefit them, but also improve local government, increase the level of discourse in state politics, and help protect the civil liberties of all New Mexicans. Family was extremely important to Linda, who kept close ties to extended family throughout her life. This passion piqued her interest in genealogy, which she pursued with characteristic determination and energy through research in local, national, and international archives. She uncovered a great deal of information, which she worked for years to piece together to better understand and share the story of her family, including the Gaume branch, which she traced back five centuries to Montecheroux, France. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dog, Kelly. She is survived by husband Jose Jaramillo and his daughter Kalynn; brother Norman and wife Heather; sister Carolyn Stevens and husband Mark; three children, Zach Ives and wife Laura, Clara Jeffers and husband Mario, and Kyle Jeffers and wife Andrea; three grandchildren, Harrison and Harper Ives and Olivia Jeffers; and very dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Albuquerque on January 12 at 10:00am. A reception to be held afterwards at 4214 2nd St NW. In lieu of flowers, Linda's family requests donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org) or the Barrett Foundation (barrettfoundation.org)
