SOVEREIGN, JERRY A. Jerry A. Sovereign, 84, of Rio Rancho, NM passed away in the early morning hours of December 29, 2012 with his family at his side. He was born in a little log cabin in Melrose, MT on December 16, 1928 in the midst of a blizzard that required the doctor who delivered him to travel on horseback to arrive just in a knick of time. He proudly served his country in the Army at the conclusion of World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Washington Law School and was an accomplished criminal attorney. He served as a prosecutor for King County, WA and later as both a Deputy District Attorney and Deputy Public Defender for San Bernardino County, CA, retiring in 1994. He was a licensed private pilot. He was blessed with a green thumb that made his flowers, plants and vegetables the envy of all who visited his home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara A. Sovereign of Rio Rancho, NM; his son, Kevin and wife Belinda of Rio Rancho, NM; granddaughter Shannon Harrison and her husband Justin as well as grandson Clark Sovereign, all of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his daughter, Seanna Pilcher and husband John of Palm Springs, CA and grandson Brian Bader, great grandchildren Jonathon Bader and Alice Bader and grandson David Bader of San Bernardino. Jerry's family wishes to publicly thank the doctors, nurses and staff members of the Raymond G. Murphy VA Hospital in Albuquerque, NM for the excellent, compassionate care and consideration they provided to him and his family in the latter years of his life, especially during his last days with us. A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho, NM at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 .
