JACK Memorial services are scheduled at 11 :00a.m. Wednesday, September 12 at the First United Methodist Church for Jack Verhines, Professional Engineer, Artesia, N.M. A native New Mexican and respected member of the New Mexico engineering community passed away on September 9, 2012 at the age of 80. He was born May 30, 1932 in Roswell, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents William Carl Verhines and Mary Lynn (Scott) Verhines. He married Corinne Aaron on May 30, 1953 in Artesia, NM and they were sweethearts for 59 years. He is survived by his wife Corinne; his son Scott Verhines and wife Cathy Cobb Verhines of Albuquerque; daughter Carla Dungan and husband Neal Dungan of Carlsbad; as well as two siblings, his brother Bill Verhines and wife LaGene of Roswell; and sister Kathleen West and husband James West of Ft. Sumner. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Toby Verhines of Baltimore, MD, Katie Verhines of Crofton, MD, Allison Dungan of Albuquerque, Katie Verhines of Crofton, MD and Barry Dungan of Las Cruces, as well as one great grandchild Camryn Fay Norsworthy of Crofton, MD. He attended Roswell High School and Eastern New Mexico University on a football scholarship. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After the army he returned to Texas Tech University in Lubbock and then completed his civil engineering degree (BSCE, 1958) from the University of New Mexico. He was a part of the New Mexico consulting engineering community for over 40 years providing engineering services to cities, counties, state and federal agencies, and private clients statewide. He started his career with Hughes Oil Company, worked for Mann Engineering and Smith Engineering Company and served as President of Scanlon and Associates for 30 years. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at The Good Life Assisted Living Complex and the Landsun Homes Health Service Center in Carlsbad.
