Obituary for DURAN

MELA M (MONTOYA) a lifelong resident of Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Mrs. Duran is survived by her sister, Rose M. Zamora, also a lifelong resident of Old Town; sister-in-law, Jessie Montoya (wife of Pano Montoya); many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Mrs. Duran was preceded in death by her husband, Cleto N. Duran, who passed away on April 2nd, 2011; her parents, Fidel and Sofronia Montoya; siblings, Fidel Montoya, wife, Anita; Flossie Cordova husband, Richard; Aurelio (Lelo) Montoya, and Cipriano (Pano) Montoya. Mrs. Duran and her late husband Cleto, spent a lifetime serving their beloved church, San Felipe de Neri, located in historic Old Town. Their love of the Lord and strong faith allowed them to mentor and support many friends and family. Mela was involved in teaching Catechism, and worked diligently to create and collect Arts and Crafts items for the Church Fiestas and was a member of Sacred Heart League and The Blue Army. Mela was a hair stylist for many years working at Flossie's Beauty Shop. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her special angels who loving cared for her, Viola Vaisa, Maria Dresser, Lynne Cox, Patricia Davis, Heather Nutter, and Vangie Montoya. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, August 16, 2012 at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2105 North Plaza NW at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Garden Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Thomas Richard Campbell, Adan Carriaga, Willie Chavez, Vaughn Harris, Tommy Lucero and Abie Tabet.
