ROBERT ALLEN PhD A resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully in his home, July 28, 2012 at the age of 93. Bob was born on February 5, 1919, in Springfield, IL. He married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Emerick, July 25, 1942. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last week. Bob was an extremely devoted family man. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen; children Jacqueline Demas and husband Tom, Cindy McGuire, and Dean Penneman and wife Viki; his grandchildren Dayna Pauly, Airon Demas-Ross, Kyle McGuire, and Logan Demas; great-grandchildren Ryan, Chayse, Trenton and soon to be born Tyler. Bob's broad contributions to the scientific community spanned five decades, starting with the Manhattan Project in July 1942. After completing his Ph.D. Degree at the University of Illinois in 1947, Bob began a distinguished 37-year career at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Bob was responsible for building and maintaining one of Los Alamos' premier scientific groups (Actinide Program). The group was one of only a few that carried out most of the pioneering Transplutonium research in the US. Retiring in 1985, Bob continued as a consultant on environmental restoration, presenting his last paper at the age of 89.
