PETE N. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather took his final walk to join the Lord in his heavenly home Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the age of 90. Pete was born February 26, 1922 to Chonita and Benedito Montoya in Chapel, New Mexico. Pete is survived by his wife of 67 years Flora; children, Robert (Maria), Pete (Lolita), Sandra, Claudia (Fernando). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robert Jr. (Melinda), Edward (Liz), Vance (Aletha), Katherine, Jason (Meredith), and Jeanette, Melody, Marissa, Adriana and Mirabella; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dora Sena; his grandson, Christopher; and his son-in-law, Park. Pete was a long time upholsterer in Albuquerque owning ABCO Upholstery for over 50 years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed taking daily walks. Pete was a survivor of the battle of Saipan where there were 5,981 Marine casualties in 25 days of battle. He is also a survivor of the battle of Iwo Jima where over 6,000 Marines were killed in 35 days of battle. Among his other awards, Pete was a recipient of two presidential unit citations. Pete will always be a proud Marine. Services will be Monday, July 16, 2012 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Alameda. Mass will be at 9:00 a.m. Rosary will be recited before Mass at 8:00 a.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Jr., Jason, Michael Cruz, Allen Douglas, Scott Crawford, Blas Gallegos, and Eddie Martinez. Pete will be buried in Santa Fe at the National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors. Pete was an extraordinary man who treated everyone he met with great kindness. He will be greatly missed by his family who loved him dearly. Special thanks to Sandra, Scott and Ashley who were his loving and dedicated caregivers in the last years of his life. All marines are invited to the funeral services. Please wear your dress blues if possible. Arrangements are being done by Riverside Funeral Home. Semper Fi
