Obituary for NEATHERLINGAUME

DOROTHY who led her life as a dedicated and joyful Christian, died June 24th at the age of 93. Dorothy was born to Spiva and Mabel HanklaNeatherlin in Roswell, New Mexico, and was raised on a farm in Dona Ana County. The valedictorian of Anthony High School class of 1936, she received a Bachelor of Science with honors in Music Education from New Mexico State University in 1941. She met Amos Gaume, whom she married, while teaching school in Hatch, New Mexico. They lived in El Paso and Anthony before moving to California for Amos to attend seminary. Amos and Dorothy served Episcopal congregations at St. Luke's in Deming, St. Christopher's in Hobbs, and St. Phillip's in Belen. She was organist and choir member, spouse of a clergyman, mother, and teacher. Dorothy taught in public schools and gave private music lessons in El Paso, Hatch, Deming, and Hobbs. St. Mark's on the Mesa in Albuquerque was her church home for the last decades of her life, and she lived at Manzano del Sol Village since 1999. Family was extremely important to Dorothy, who remained very close to a large extended family over her whole life. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, LW and Reuel, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth. She is survived by a sister, Irma Akins of Snohomish, WA; three children, Norman and wife Heather, Linda Jaramillo and husband Jose, and Carolyn Stevens and husband Mark; nine grandchildren, Zachary Ives, Camille Snyder, Alethea Stone, Clara Jeffers, Kyle Jeffers, Brittany Gaume, Joseph Stevens, Aaron Stevens, and Kalynn Jaramillo; and six great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a devout Christian. She spent countless hours ministering to her community and reading her Bible, praying, and meditating each day. She lived her life wrapped in the love of Jesus. Her genuine selflessness, love, compassion, and respect left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Family and friends will sorely miss her joyful, loving spirit and ever-present smile. A Memorial Service will be held on July 19th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond NE, Albuquerque. Dorothy requested that memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity, Joy Junction or Prison Fellowship Ministries.
