FLOYD W. Floyd W. Caldwell aka "Slick" was a beloved father, husband, educator, soldier, athlete and friend. Floyd passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, June 27, 2012 at 93 years of age. Floyd grew up on a small farm in OK. He was a highly touted football player in HS and was recruited by several colleges. He attended Athens University in Georgia only to become homesick, and return to OK. Soon after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as Sergeant and combat medic in the 179th infantry. He was sent to Anzio Beachhead and other heavy combat areas in Europe during WW2. He and his four brothers were all serving in the European campaign at the same time and all survived to make it home. Decorated with several medals, he came home to finish college and pursue a degree in education. He later married, Patricia Goodman, and started a family. He is survived by his three sons: Arthur M Caldwell, wife Angela, their four children Sarah, Jennifer, Matthew, Joanie and their six children; R. Mitchell Caldwell, wife Debra, and their son Chance; F. Patrick Caldwell, wife Joan, and their two sons, Kurtis and Jarred. His youngest and only surviving brother, Bill, quoted "Floyd was one of the nicest persons to ever walk the face of the earth. He never spoke an unkind word about anyone." Floyd and wife, Patricia, decided to move the family to NM in 1963 for more opportunity in their education careers. He worked as a teacher at Mitchell Elementary School and went on to pursue his Masters degree in elementary education from UNM. Floyd retired from APS in 1981. He was a man of few words, but was always there if you needed a hand. He enjoyed scouting, hiking, gardening, and loved time spent with friends and family. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 7th, 1:00pm at St Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd NE.
