Obituary for MAGNARELLA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday June 17, 2012

JAMES H. January 17, 1956 - June 12, 2012 Age 56, passed away on June 12, 2012 at home in Albuquerque, New Mexico after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends. Jimmy was a loving son, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his niece Lydia Millar, her husband Ted, and his nephew Lee Gordon, and his wife Stephanie, all of Milton, New York. He is also survived by a great-niece and nephew, Mady and Patrick Millar. Jim was born on January 17, 1956 in Millbrook, New York. He was the son of Lidio and Erna Magnarella, who both predeceased him and brother to the late Nancy Magnarella Gordon. Jimmy was a drummer and toured the world in a thirty five year career, performing nearly every style of music. Nothing brought him more joy than playing his drums and performing for others. A person of humor and integrity, Jim was always a team player. He was one of those rare drummers that performs with the musical instincts of a clairvoyant and the conviction of a southern baptist preacher. Jim was also previously employed by Intel and East Mountain High. Since living in Albuquerque, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning his own music store - Magnarella's Drum Shop - where he taught music to young and old enthusiasts alike. He was also a long-time Unity student. The music team at Unity Spiritual Center in Albuquerque will not be the same without his incredibly talented percussion. He had such a positive impact on the lives of everyone that knew him and he will be sadly missed, but certainly not forgotten. A memorial service will be held on June 17, 2012 at 5pm at the Unity Spiritual Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
