Obituary for SAHD

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday June 09, 2012

PATRICIA L. Age 98, of Penasco passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2012. Born in Hagerman, NM to a school teacher from Ohio and his wife, Patty spent her earliest years in San Antonio and Silver City, NM. Her father, a professor at Western State took the family from Silver City to Santa Fe. He taught school and homesteaded a dairy farm just south of the city on the road to Cerrillos. Patty grew up a typical "ranch girl" despite a yearning to be an artist. Though the family struggled, as most did during the depression, at the age of 17 she managed to find her way to New York City and the famous Art League. She returned to New Mexico and New Mexico A&M in the mid 1930's to finish a degree in education. Subsequently she taught in the Stanley, NM before becoming a Navy wife and living in Utah, Texas and Florida. After World War II, she and her husband Pete taught briefly in Pojoaque prior to purchasing a store in Penasco. She and Pete remained in their beloved adopted home town until their deaths. Patty was an inveterate traveler. With Pete she traveled to Europe, North Africa, the Far East and the Middle East. After Pete's death she added Australia, China, Ireland and Central Africa to her travels. Despite her "aggie" roots Patty was a devoted Lobo fan during her UNM husband's life. That fanaticism continued until her untimely death. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Pete "El Pite" Sahd; parents, Myron and Lillian Lugibihl; siblings, Myron (Bataan), Lorraine LeDuc, Martille Burbank and Boris Lugibihl. She is survived by her sons, Randy Sahd (Diane) and Ted Sahd (Marti); grandchildren, Michelle Phillips, Daniel, Shaun, Kyle and Nicole Sahd; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Rodriguez and Tari Evans. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 7:00 PM at San Antonio de la Padua Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11 AM at San Antonio de la Padua Church. Interment will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 9:45 AM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Donations can be given to the Grand Rapid Dominicans, 2025 East Sulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49503-3895.
